When I first decided to become a photographer, my knowledge was very limited. Basically, I knew I liked beautiful photos, I knew I wanted to take beautiful photos and I knew I wanted a Canon camera. Six years, hundreds of shoots and two companies later, I think it's safe to say that I've picked up a few things.
Me vs. Tech: I would rather bash myself over the head with a tripod than read the instruction manual for any product other than my dogs' heart worm medication. Don't get me wrong - I love a good novel just as much as any English major out there, and my nose is usually stuck in some business magazine or another - but I don't read tech. It might as well be written in hieroglyphics.
That being said, you might be wondering how I survive in an industry that is completely centered around ever changing technology, but it's really simple. I network, I ask questions, I troubleshoot and when in doubt: I Google. I've also found that the best way to really understand the nuts & bolts of a certain technique or product is to explain it at the basic level. I'm going to do some technical posts here and there as an attempt to hone my expertise at my craft, and if it helps someone out there who's struggling through instruction manuals, that's cool too.
