My Mother's Wedding Dress

Romantic comedies, chick lit and the eighties gave us all the impression that our mother's wedding dresses are walking nightmares wrapped in tulle. It's inevitable isn't it? Mom excitedly hands her newly affianced daughter a dusty box - daughter awkwardly wonders how to let her mom down easy so as not to be mauled by sleeves on the happiest day of her life.

Everyone has this problem, right? WRONG. I'm not getting hitched anytime soon, but considering my profession, my Mama sent me to the attic to fetch her gown.

"I want you to have it," she said with a fond smile. And so, I dusted off the box and pulled back the tissue paper, grabbed a wooden hanger and shook out the fabric. 

My mother's wedding gown is stunning. It's among the loveliest gowns I've ever seen. I would wear her dress - even if it was just to do the dishes every night - it's just too gorgeous not to wear.
