San Francisco in Snapshots.

I purposely planned my trip out west to be a lengthy one.  I got to see my friends in Los Angeles, road trip through one of my favorite places (bonus points for lack of cell service!) and it all ended with shooting a beautiful wedding of two really cool people.  Between the road trip and the wedding, I scheduled some down time to wander around San Francisco and hang with Camilla.  We had so much fun.  Going through these photos makes me really miss San Francisco.  I want to go back, like, now.

Highlights included:
  • Showing up on pizza night.  Girl makes good pizza.  And I know good pizza.
  • Finally meeting Damir!
  • Pizza at Gioia.  And, you know, learning how to eat a pizza like a New Yorker.  Thanks, Gioia.
  • Finally meeting Claire!
  • Spending the afternoon at a dive bar being ridiculous and playing pool.
  • Meeting Graham!
  • Playing beer pong, having dance parties and watching the vice-presidential debate (most fun I've ever had watching a debate, letmetellyou).
  • Having drinks at the Tonga(aaaaaaaa) Room in the Fairmont.
  • Camilla talking our way up to the penthouse where she and Damir were married.  Getting the full tour, complete with all of the great stories from the day.
  • Delicious brunches with exploding ketchup bottles.
  • A walk through "the dark forest" which sounds (and looks) like something straight out of Harry Potter.  That place is pure magic.
  • Humphry Slocombe.  Did I mention that already?
  • Chatting with Jody while staring at the incredible view from her living room.
  • Walking into my hotel room on Friday night to discover all of those windows.  And that view.  And the sunset.  Hello, room service?
  • Not being the only one with a camera permanently attached to my face :)
Until we meet again, San Francisco.  And soon, I hope.

I really, really like San Francisco.

via my instagram
Last night, on the tail end of my northbound west coast road trip, my GPS took me off of the 101 at Octavia Boulevard.  It was a stupid move that tacked on an extra fifteen minutes of traffic to my already lengthy duration in my rental car.  It was pitch black and I was on city roads I didn't know.  I was annoyed.  I wanted to arrive at my destination.  I swore at my stupid phone for being misleading and the guy behind me who was honking at me to turn (there are cars coming!) and then I turned and I was going up, up, up.  And then I stopped.  And I drove down, down, down.  And then I stopped.  And then I giggled like a six year old.  San Francisco is among my favorite cities.  I love it's fun, windy streets.  I love the fog.  I love daydreaming about living in the apartments I pass as I'm waiting at stoplights.  But if you ask me what my favorite part about San Francisco is, my answer would most certainly, undoubtedly, be that I get to hang out with this girl.  And why do I love Camilla so much?  Because we can sit around and chat for hours without getting tired of it.  Because she gets me.  Because she makes killer pizza and keeps her fridge stocked with pumpkin beer.  Because we have a mutual appreciation for the art of relaxation and winging it.  Put simply, she's awesome - what's not to love?

So that'll be my day today: soaking up lots of Camilla time and winging it in one of my favorite cities.

And really, what better way to celebrate the launch of the Fall issue of the Violet?

San Francisco

San Francisco and I have a little bit of history (if you want to know that story, check out the inaugural issue of the Violet).  For that reason, when I go there, it kind of feels like catching up with an old friend - the kind you can pick up with right where you left off, no matter the time it's been since you've seen them.  It kind of feels like going home.

It was a brief trip, but it was the perfect amount of time to make both of my shoots (here and here) better than I ever imagined, wander the sfMoMA (that Rothko gets me every time), and spend some quality time with my favorite Bay Area beauty, Camilla.

Camilla and I have become so close over the past few years and I feel so lucky to have her in my life.  I could go on and on, but instead, I'm just going to keep sending her obnoxious emails and messages telling her how excited I am to see her next week.  And a month after that, too.  I'm really liking the frequency of our visits these days.  Let's keep this up, C.

Last time I was in SF, I managed to take less than twenty pictures, all of Clarion Alley, save for one of the menu at Bugaloos, so this time I'm making up for it.  Here's a random collection of photos from my last trip.

driving down Mt. Tam // flowers on the street // lovely, lovely fog // Bar None // burgers and spiked milkshakes from Super Duper // the view from Camilla's porch - I know, right? //  Rose's Cafe // Kenza right after she mistook my squeals of excitement for fear of oncoming traffic // Chrissy Field // the Presidio // one of the many reasons we are twins // sigh, more fog // Golden Gate // the Violet: behind the scenes // some pretty deep graffiti // more gorgeous flowers

A friend of mine gave me a list of places to go in San Francisco and I managed to make it to a whopping one of them on my last trip.  I'm determined to check off the rest when I'm there in October. If you know of any places I should add, let me know!

Summer Essentials
the Violet - Summer 2012
San Francisco, California

The Violet's summer issue launched today! This is my favorite issue yet.  And I'm not saying that just because I shot the Summer Essentials feature (i heart fog).  More photos from that here soon.

For more inspiration (er, procrastination)...

Route 218

My last instagram post left me just arriving home from Europe.  With everything that's been going on since, I feel like that was a year ago (which means it's time to go back, right?).  Here's what I've been up to....
